Oval Pack Baskets and Totes

Oval Pack Baskets and Totes
Weave a Willow Pack or Tote Basket using traditional wicker (stake and strand) weaving techniques that will last generations!
In this two and half day workshop participants will learn twinning and running weaves to weave an oval willow base, waiing & randing weaves to construct the baskets body, and a three or five rod boarder to complete the basket. Additionally, participants will learn how to incorporate leather handles or make willow wicker handles. Participants will also gain a comprehensive understanding of how to source, propagate, harvest & prepare basketry willow for future projects
Willow basketry requires average to moderate hand strength. Previous willow weaving skills are helpful but not required. Previous students who are confident in willow twinning may opt out of Friday evenings session if they are choosing to make a tote basket.
The workshop will be hosted just outside of Athens, Ohio Friday, December 11th 4pm - 8 pm and Saturday/Sunday, December 12th & 13th 9 am - 5pm.
This workshop is offered on a sliding scale of $350-650. Students are asked to consider both what they can afford and the size of their basket when choosing their price. When those who can pay more do, it enables those who cannot to take the class at a lower rate.
Class size is limited. Registration will close November 30h or once full. Please use an email you check regularly for registration. We will reach out to inquire what basket size you desire to make and directions. Registration is confirmed by paying deposit/materials fee of $250. The remainder of the class payment is due when class begins December 11th.
This is an in-person class.
